Threats:
Major threat to forest come from organized gangsterism in the field of timber smuggling and poaching. Areas are also vulnerable to organized gangsterism in the field of timber. Poaching of wildlife is also a major threat.

Protection:
The problem is tackled, by and large, over a major part of forested tract by formation of Forest Protection Committees. Protection is provided through intensive patrolling by protective personnel.Most of such areas have been brought under RT Network and protective personnel have been provided with some arms and ammunitions and vehicles for quick mobility. State Armed Police force have been deployed in different camps of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar Districts and in Sunderbans to assist protection of forests and wildlife reserves in the state.
